Today in class we learned about percent error. It is much like percent of change or percent mark up/markdown.
Homework: Complete the practice problems on the notes handout from class.
Today in class we reviewed finding percent discount and moved on to work on mark up and mark down. Surprise - it's the same process. Find the percent and add for mark up or subtract for mark down.

Please solve The Bargain Store problems on the Percent of Change page. You must take each discount BEFORE taking another discount. So if you take 50% off of $100, plus an additional 25% off, you start by taking 50% of $100 which is $50. Now you take 25% off of that $50 which is $12.50. Your total discount is $100 - $50 -$12.50 = $37.50 you new total for the item you are purchasing.
Today in class we practiced finding the percent of change. We found that the math is the same whether we are finding an increase or decrease. We also found out that we can use a negative percent to show a decrease which is helpful if we have a table or chart of data and don not want to write out the word 'decrease'.
Homework: finish the half page of word problems from class today. I will post the answers later today.
In class today we learned how to calculate the percent of change. For example, we divide the amount of weight we have gained or lost by what our weight was when we started gaining/losing.
Homework: Complete the four remaining problems of percent change from class. You do not have to do the word problems tonight.

Today in class we discovered that a 20% discount is the same as paying 80% of the original price. We also found that when we find an 8% tax on purchased items, we add that tax to the overall cost.. We can also multiply the cost of the items by 1.08 to get the final amount to pay.
Yesterday in class students took the proportions test, and today those who did not finish completed it. We also reviewed moving the decimal for finding 10% and 1%. We began a group activity applying percents in daily life situations, and will continue it tomorrow.

Find 10% of these numbers by moving the decimal one place: 45.62, 12.40, 98.23
Find 1% of these numbers by moving the decimal two places: 99.74, 48.34, 12.12
Find 15% of these numbers by moving the decimal to find 10% and 1%, then add to reach 15%: 21.45, 65.49, 38.99
How else could you find 15% that involves addition?

Today in class we began reviewing percents. We looked at how to set up percents using fractions (looks just like proportions) and as equations. We will test on proportions Thursday.
