Today in class students worked with an interactive article in Discovery Education about how the environment we grow up in can influence our growth and development. We have discussed how the environment can influence our lives as adults (cancer).

Today in class students reviewed the Punnett square work they had completed already, and had a good discussion about (3rd period) how the environment impacts our genetics, or (8th period) created a karyotype and updated the TIP sheet.
Today in class students learned about the structure and function of DNA - all those chromosomes, genes, and traits we have been discussing.
Today in class students created Punnett squares from given information about blood types, and then had fun creating a baby face with different features by using dominant and recessive characteristics and a pair of pennies.
Today in class students practiced Punnett squares. We will be moving on to other things Monday.
Today in class students completed the 3rd quarter benchmark. The scores are posted for you to see in power school, but they do not impact the quarter grade.
Today in class students reviewed the Punnett squares 1/2 page homework assignment as well as the 1/2 page heterozygous/homozygous and dominant/recessive allele page from class the other day. We continued to practice working with Punnett squares.
Today in class we looked at how Punnett squares work - what kind of information is displayed. We used a lot of genetics vocabulary today. Make sure TIP sheets are not too technical to read and understand!
Today in class we completed notes from Chapter 14 sections 3, 4, and 6. We have moved on to review mitosis and meiosis, sexual and asexual reproduction, genetic diversity, and added knowledge of the structure of DNA and RNA to this. There is a new choice board of resources in the google classroom, and a quizlet created by a student for his classmates.
Today in class students learned more about homozygous and heterozygous genotypes and phenotypes, along with the functions of mRNA, tRNA, and ribosomes.
