Today in science we discussed the difference between distance time graphs and speed time graphs. Students did more digging into the topic with their packet and information on the weebly. We also watched the difference between dropping a flat sheet of paper, a ball of paper, and a small book. Gravity is a constant 9.8 m/s/s but these objects did not all behave the same way!

In class today students discovered how to assign given data to graphs and how to label distance time graphs with the activity that they portray. (In third period we communicated how we determined the data would fit the graph.)
In science today students had a great class discussion about forces and work. The "what if" conversations are a great way to study science once you have the vocabulary! We checked our matched up graphs and stories as well.
In class today students completed the Motion and Forces Quiz. We also looked at distance time graphs and matched up data and possible stories with them.
Sorry kiddos, I DID have a meeting after school as it turns out. Today in class students learned about distance time graphs as a way to describe speed.
HW: Name two things that would help Stickman with forces as he pushes that box. Hint #1: Think about the different types of friction. Go to the balanced and unbalanced forces slideshow for help. Hint #2: Stickman is a nice guy. In class today we discussed getting the most out of the resources provided. Please do not just hunt for the answer to today's questions and goof off the rest of the time. Your quizizz grade from Friday was a big hint for you on how well you are making use of your time in class and with your group.
Today's objective questions: F=ma explain what each term means and which of Newton's 3 Laws it represents. What happens to F if m changes? What if a changes? We discussed what these mean in both mathematical and physical terms. If stick man is pushing a box, how many forces are acting on it? (Four; you got three of them correct during class - tomorrow be ready to write down the fourth.) Create a diagram in your science notebook like the one on the board. Today in class students took a quizizz assessment to get a feel for how much effort they are putting into gathering and processing information about motion and forces. Their conclusion was that they need to put in MORE effort to gather information and study that information.
Most missed questions were about: Newtons Laws, application of mass and velocity definitions, and friction. There needs to be more thought about what motion actually is, and the forces that allow it to occur. We watched most of a great video about the physics of car crashes which showed some of the formulas of which students should be aware - they help with understanding the application of the physical concepts. Today in class students had more resources to check out under the resources tab in order to explore the objective questions for today:
What are Newton's 3 Laws of Motion? What is an example of how each law works? Today in class students had a great discussion about motion, reference points, and acceleration. Today's objective questions were:
What are balanced and unbalanced forces? What happens to an object when forces are balanced? What about when they are unbalanced? Keep in mind that there are plenty of resources available, and that you can accomplish more in class than just answering the objectives for the day. Create pages of information to review each night. In class today we had a substitute teacher while I went to a workshop at NCCU. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, students used their textbooks to create notes on Chapter 16 sections 1 and 3, and answered the following questions: (Keep building that study guide!)
What is acceleration? What are 3 different types of acceleration? Can you recognize acceleration when it is described? |
