Today in class students researched the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. They created a Venn diagram or T chart to organize information. We discussed how these cells are related to cell theory and living things along with examples of the different cells.
In class today - 3rd period students reviewed the cell theory activity from yesterday and moved on to articles about Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells. They worked to produce a product useful for reviewing later. 8th period students all watched the cell theory video with me, reviewed cell theory, and moved on to start the articles. We are almost caught up with 3rd.
Today in class students in 3rd period debated over whether or not certain characteristics of a car would make it a living thing. We then listed out 6 characteristics (some lists have 5 and some have 7 or more) of living things. We watched a video about the history of cell discovery and theory.
In 8th period students completed the 2nd quarter Benchmark and briefly discussed the characteristics of a car being a living thing. Today in 3rd period class students completed the 2nd quarter Benchmark. Early release. No 8th period.
Today in class we discussed the impending low pressure system soon to move up the east coast and bring winter weather east of us (maybe). We had a great class discussion about what characteristics define a living thing.
