In class today we discussed setting up a graphic organizer in the science journal to check which type of cell has which structures. More group time with cells.
Homework: Please check Power schools tonight to see if you want to come in to SMART Block tomorrow and complete test corrections for the Protist Test I am grading tonight.
Cell Test next Thursday, so study for a few minutes what you accomplished in class thus far.
In class the exploring cells group work continues.
Homework: Study the structures and functions of organelles in the cell. The cell unit test will be next Thursday.
Today in class we began a series of group stations to explore the unique properties of bacterial, plant, and animal cells.
Homework: Microscope quiz tomorrow.
Begin studying the structures and functions of the cells.
Today in class we learned about the organization scheme of organisms: from cells to tissues to organs to organ systems to an organism. We also studied the steps, and purpose for, mitosis and meiosis. SMART Block will be open for students to use the Cells books and complete the reading and note taking if needed.
Homework: Study the structures and functions of cells. Know the organization of an organism. Also begin to review the steps of mitosis and meiosis - what are these processes for?
Microscope quiz on Friday.
Today in class we had a discussion about comparing cell structures between protist and plant/animal/bacterial cells. We watched a Discovery education video about cells.
Homework: Microscope quiz on Friday. Study the Letter e activity we completed in class.
Begin to study those cell structures and functions.
Today in class students took the Protist Test. Tomorrow we will begin to research plant, animal, and bacterial cells.
In class today we completed the microscope activity and built a few interesting things with Keva planks.
Homework: STUDY for the protist test is on MONDAY.
Yesterday in class we completed the stations investigating protists. Today we explored the parts of the microscope and began an activity that we will complete tomorrow.
Homework: The protist test will be Monday. Please refer to the station essential questions and homework listed on 01/13 and 01/18 for guidelines.
In class we are coming close to wrapping up the protist learning stations, and moving on to the microscope. Last day for class time to complete stations is tomorrow. The test will be next week on Monday or Tuesday.
Homework: Study those protists parts and functions. Can you recognize the four we have focused on? They are usually classified by how they move. Pay attention to how and what they eat or get energy from. What kind of cell are they? Protist cells can reproduce sexually and asexually (we will discuss more about this later with bacterial, plant and animal cells).
Today in class we continued our study of Kingdom Protista. Students should have been finished with 5 of the 9 stations before class today, and our goal is to be done with all 9 by Thursday at the end of class. Only 1 of the stations requires students to be in class - to use the Parade of Life books. All of the others can be completed outside of the classroom although you lose the benefit of working with your group.
Homework: Please fill out, initial, sign and return the data forms and new copy of the BYOD expectations. Even if your information has not changed, and you still understand the BYOD policies, we as a team have decided to renew all of our contact information forms and refresh everyone's memories of the BYOD contract policy. Thank you so much. :)
