3rd period we began the process of writing an essay. We completed pages 79 &80 in our workbooks. 8th period is a few days ahead in the same process. Today, they began evaluating the rubric we will use. They completed page 83.
3rd period took the mid unit assessment. Great job! 8th period evaluated an easy and began to understand the proper use of quotations.

3rd Period evaluated the website information on pages 75-76. 8th period began the process of writing our end of unit essay. We completed pages 79-80 in opur workbooks.

3rd period: Discussed how Park used or altered historical facts to create a novel. Completed page 72-73 (turned in) and 74.

3rd block worked on comparing a non fiction text with a novel. We also had a lock-down drill. Please speak with your students about the serious nature and importance to practice during a drill of any kind.

3rd period: Compared an article (15) to the novel, citing evidence to support their ideas. They complete this on page 70.
8th period: Found evidence in both the article and the novel to support comparisons. At the end of class, we had a chalk talk. A chalk talk is a silent conversation in which students think about ideas and respond in writing. Many good ideas were explored.

Welcome back. I hope everyone is safe and that life is getting back to normal after the hurricane. In language arts today, 3rd period explored the way persistence helps Salva to survive. We answered this question in an essay form on page 61 of our workbooks. Block 8 compared a non-fiction text (page 15) with the novel. We completed page 70 in our workbooks citing evidence to support our thinking. If we used a vocabulary word from pages 64 or 67 , we received extra credit!

We continued to explore how the author, Linda Sue Parks, juxtaposed Nya and Salva to compare and contrast them. An exit ticket was turned in (page 59 in the workbook)

Today we reviewed A Long Walk to Water and considered whether or not Salva was lucky. We also learned about juxtaposition and considered how the author used the juxtaposition of Salva and Nya to create points of view.

We continued working on note-catchers in A Long Walk to Water. Period 3 should be on chapter 12. Period 8 completed through 14. We also worked on vocabulary on page 56 of our notebook.

We worked with finding the meanings of words in context. Page 47-48 (workbook). We also read and reviewed chapter 7 and completed the note catcher. Read and finish notes for chapter 8.

We used an online note-catcher to reflect on the plot and theme of unit 6. This is available on google classroom. Make sure you make a copy and edit your own copy.

Today we visited the media center to check out books. You should have an independent reading book with you always, so you can read when you complete work or finish a test early!

Today we worked on collecting and evaluating the details of a non fiction article. We completed page 29-31 in our workbooks. On page 31 we learned how to use the gathered evidence to answer a text dependent question.

Today we found evidence to support the differences and similarities between the Dinka and Nuer in excerpt 2 from "Sudanese Tribes Confront Modern War". We completed pages 28 and 29 in our workbooks. If students did not complete this, they should complete for homework.
