Today in class students took the Genetics II Test. Results are in power school. Test corrections will be early next week. We continued to work on, or complete, the classwork on the Reproductive System from yesterday. All resources are linked on the google classroom.
Today in class students completed test corrections for the Genetics I Test. We began our Human Body Systems Unit today. Students worked independently on a Brain Pop with an organ diagram, vocabulary page, and steps before fertilization for the Reproductive System.
Today in class students completed their look into certain genetic disorders, and then we discussed the Human Body Systems Infographics project for fourth quarter, All 4 human body systems, circulatory, digestive, excretory, and respiratory systems that we focus on in 7th grade should have an infographic created for them by each student. The instructions outlining what should be included is in the google classroom, ready to copy and add to individual google drive accounts. Updated the instructions this afternoon (5:07 pm).
Today in class students discussed genetic predisposition, genetic carrier, and phenotype. We looked at resources about Cystic Fibrosis, Down Syndrome, Sickle Cell Anemia, Hemophilia, and Color Blindness. These will be on the test Thursday.
Today in class students completed the Interpreting Genetics Data Quiz (all the answers are on the quiz). We also learned about the difference between autosomal and sex-linked traits, along with the outcome in pedigrees.
Today in class students worked on creating pedigrees from given scenarios, and tracing the patterns of inherited recessive trait diseases.
Today in class students worked with pedigree symbols and genetic relationships. It's cool stuff.
Today in class students took the Genetics 1 Test and then evaluated some karyotypes to see if they could determine the genetic disorder.
Today in class students held a great conversation about genetic diversity, environmental impact on genetics, and inherited characteristics. See the HW tab for topics to review one more time for tomorrow's test.
