Today in class students reviewed their work on equations with variables o both sides and began to practice writing out equations from real world applications. Test on solving equations is coming up on Monday.
Today in class students reviewed and worked together to convert repeating decimals to fractions. (Unfortunately the volume was not working for the video under the resources tab, but the math still worked!)
Today in class students dug in and learned how to solve equations with the variable on both sides of the equal sign.
Today in class students looked at what to do with a variable on both sides of an equation. It was scary. We will conquer this tomorrow. After a good breakfast. And coffee for me.
Today in class students took apart yesterday's Standard 7.EE.1 quiz to discover why they did so poorly. Grades are in power school, but only to view not to impact the quarter grade. The class decided that they need to 1. slow down and box like terms, 2. check over work to catch careless errors, and 3. watch the sign (positive or negative). Practice would help, and yet few come to Smart Block... Those who did well were asked to volunteer to be peer tutors on Tuesdays and Thursdays, when they can, during Smart Block.
Today in class students reviewed using the distributive property with equations and practiced writing and solving equations. They also took a short quiz (announced yesterday) to see how well they are remembering the steps to solve equations and combine like terms.
Today in class students reviewed last night's homework and saw a new way of clearing out a fraction from an equation besides dividing by that fraction. (You can multiply each term with a whole number that will allow the coefficient(s) to simplify into a whole number.) We checked out Math Antics for using the distributive property in equations.
Today in class students completed notes for two step equations and practiced solving them.
Today in class students practiced one step equations and then used the wcpss reteaching video plus note page to learn about two step equations.
